more than housing—it’s a new beginning

Homelessness takes away more than a roof—it strips people of stability, safety, and opportunity. At NCS, we provide more than a home—we offer community, care, and a pathway forward.

Your spring gift helps neighbors like Kharisma rebuild their lives with dignity and purpose.

meet kharisma: finding her way forward

Kharisma grew up in the foster care system, moving between homes and never having a stable place to truly call her own. When she turned 18 that all changed because she moved into Louis Nine House (LNH), NCS’s supportive residence in the Bronx for young adults. At first, Kharisma was reserved and hesitant to trust. But with time and the persistent guidance of dedicated staff, she began to see LNH as her home.

At NCS, she found the stability to pursue her education and rediscover her confidence. She earned her GED—a huge milestone—and is now looking ahead to what comes next.

Kharisma has always been drawn to the creativity and precision of building and design, fascinated by how spaces come together and the craftsmanship behind them. She dreams of a career in construction and real estate, where she can bring her ideas to life and help create homes for others. Now, with her GED in hand, Kharisma is working with our team to apply for construction training programs. She is also working to secure independent housing, making room for another young person in need.
