Fidelia

“When I was younger, I used to bring lunch to my mom’s office and would pass a homeless shelter on the way. I wanted to help and so once I was in middle school I spent two summers volunteering there doing meal prep, washing dishes, and packing food pantry bags. This had a huge impact on me. Now I’m at Boston College, which is a Jesuit university and their motto is “men and women for others;” they teach us to serve others. Through a program at the school, I began volunteering at a suicide hotline. When I was looking for a summer internship back in New York, I wanted to combine my passion for helping those struggling with mental health and the homeless population I used to work with. My favorite experiences while interning at NCS have been visiting the NCS Residence and Louis Nine House and getting to chat with the residents. I don’t think you can serve a population without getting to know them as people. After I graduate I hope to go into community advocacy and social services.”
