Streetlives: Winner of the NextGen Innovation Award
Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter congratulates Streetlives for winning the inaugural NextGen Innovation Award. The $5,000 Award will be presented to Streetlives’ founder Adam Bard and his team on January 29, 2020 at Celebrating Innovation: A NextGen Network Event.
Streetlives is a community-built digital platform that will enable anyone in need to find, rate, and recommend information on services, including housing; food; counseling; and educational, legal, and employment assistance. This “Yelp for social services” helps people find what they need and share what they know.
Adam Bard and his team at Streetlives are doing incredible work that will impact how homeless New Yorkers receive and share information about needed services.
“We believe in creating technology aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable people built with—and preferably in—the community,” said Mr. Bard. “We are thrilled with this recognition of our work from an organization with deep roots in New York City.”
NCS launched the NextGen Innovation Award in 2019 to advance creative strategies for alleviating homelessness by recognizing an emerging leader or team working on an innovative approach to homelessness. The award has been endowed by a generous grant from The Fullgraf Foundation.
“NCS works to transform the lives of people struggling with homelessness,” said NCS Executive Director Ann L. Shalof. “The NextGen Innovation Award is designed to encourage the development of actionable ideas that address homelessness in New York City. It is the signature project of NCS’s NextGen Committee, as it is intended to foster the next generation of leadership in this arena.
“Streetlives is empowering people to help others access needed services,” Ms. Shalof said. “Throughout our history NCS has been a model of community response to homelessness, pioneering creative solutions. Streetlives is a modern, innovative community-based response to the homelessness crisis and is directly in line with the mission of this Award and of NCS.”
