Yakov's Journey

“I learned German in school growing up in Lithuania. I came to the United States by myself in 1974 when I was 19 years old. I was very fortunate to be sponsored by a Jewish organization in the Boston area. A family took me in, and I lived like a family member for a year. They had 3 children and we lived outside of Boston in a town called Framingham. I didn’t speak any English when I came here but I learned the language. I moved to New York City around 30 years ago, and I feel so fortunate to live here.”
