The Froelichs: A Family of Volunteers
The Brick Presbyterian Church was a founding partner of NCS, and the church continues to support our work in many ways, including volunteering. Many Brick members of all ages participate in volunteer opportunities—and for the Froelichs, it’s a family affair!
Shannon Froelich is the Brick Church Women’s Association Coordinator, providing staff support for the volunteer group that raises money for community organizations (including NCS) throughout the year.
And Shannon isn’t the only member of her family involved with NCS. Her sons, Will and Drew, volunteered at Brick’s weekly dinner program alongside other young members of the church.
After preparing dinner, Brick volunteers stay to enjoy the meal with their guests. Will and Drew always looked forward to their dinner conversations with Ron, a tenant at the NCS Residence who loves literature and often discussed the books the boys read in school with them.
When these community meals were suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Froelichs looked for other ways they could help their neighbors at the Residence. They baked and delivered homemade cookies for the residents during the holidays, and Will organized an event at his school to assemble hygiene kits for NCS clients. Will also went the extra mile last year when he walked a marathon through Central Park and asked his friends and family to sponsor him to raise money for NCS.
“The Froelich family is a great example of the community involvement that makes our work possible,” said Ann Shalof, CEO of Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter. "We are fortunate to have ongoing support from the institutions that helped create our organization. The partnership, though, goes beyond these institutions to the members who get involved in personal ways to help make NCS home to their formerly homeless neighbors."
Thank you to the Froelichs for always looking for new ways to give back to your neighbors!
